After the extremely successful start to the Eco-Savers programme in one school in Kupang, more schools are now getting ready to join the scheme.

All these new pilot schools, in cooperation with the education office, the environmental office, the local planning agency and the sanitation office, are preparing ‘waste bankbooks’ for pupils, in which students record the amount of recyclable rubbish they collect. Guidelines for the correct implementation of the Eco-savers programme in schools are being drawn up and information material is being distributed to students and parents. A Memorandum of Understanding with local junkshops, who are buying the collected recyclable material from the schools, is being drawn up – all is in place for successfully rolling out the project in April/May 2012.
