In the second article of our new series, where we are looking more closely at key DELGOSEA members who are holding the network together and work behind the scenes in each country, the focus this month is on KAS.

KAS is an independent German political foundation close to the Christian Democratic Party with more than 50 years experience of international work. The Foundation is committed to fostering democracy and local development, improving the understanding across national and cultural borders, providing assistance for self-help, and combating the root causes of poverty and the destruction of the environment.

With field offices in more than 80 countries, KAS hosts more than 200 projects in around 120 countries on four continents. Activities are carried out together with partners in the host countries, including national and regional parliaments and governments, political parties, schools, research institutes and universities, media companies, employers’ associations, trade unions, cooperatives, women’s, environmental, and self-help groups. In the Philippines, KAS is concentrating on the development of a social market economy, institutional and political reform as well as peace and development in Mindanao.

Within the Manila office of the Adenauer Foundation, Peter Koeppinger, the Country Director, has the overall responsibility for the DELGOSEA network, directing the activities and advising on the overall strategy, supported by Programme Manager Genessy Detubio and Programme Assistant, Jerome Jogno. Manila is also the home of the communication office of DELGOSEA that keeps the different members in touch with each other, through newsletters, the website and social media.

It would be hard to imagine DELGOSEA without the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, which played a crucial role in designing, running and sustaining the network.

Coming up next month: Local Government Development Foundation (LOGODEF)
