Outstanding Local Governance Programmes Awarded in the Philippines

The Philippine awarding agency, Galing Pook, has chosen the 10 most inspiring best practices in local government in 2014, coming from all corners of the Philippines and representing innovative approaches to good local government.

The Galing Pook awards recognise innovation and excellence in local governance, selecting 10-15 outstanding programmes each year from a wide range of applicants that are undergoing a rigorous multi-level screening process. The criteria for selection are based on the level of impact, the results reached, promotion of people’s participation and empowerment, transferable and sustainability, innovation and efficiency of programme service delivery.

The winners this year include the Provincial Government of Quezon with its massive mangrove propagation for the protection and rehabilitation of its marine environment, Quezon City with a creative solution to fund affordable social housing, Legazpi City’s modern integrated land transport terminal, Mindanao’s municipality of Kauswagan’s From Arms to Farms programme, a unique peace promoting initiative – and many more.
