Indonesian local governance coaches continued to undertake in-country preparations on facilitating local governance best practices replications at pilot cities during a one-day meeting in Jakarta with Dr. Rudolf  Hauter, National Coordinator  and Ann Hardjosoesilo, Local Government Specialist on December 15, 2010.  The meeting resulted in clarifying strategic matters comprising tasks and responsibilities at various levels, work mechanism, plan of action, development of transfer concept, and establishment of working groups at the pilot cities of Kupang, Tarakan, Pangkal Pinang and Wakatobi in January 2011.

At the same meeting, the National Coordinator also took the opportunity to welcome the regency of Wakatobi in Sulawesi as the latest pilot city in Indonesia. The regency decided to select the Best Practice on Low Carbon City from Muangklang, Thailand. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the regency, UCLG-ASPAC, and the Association of Indonesian Regency (APKASI) as the respective local government association was also finalized.

Furthermore, the coaches and the Association of Indonesian Municipalities (APEKSI), one of DELGOSEA local government association partner in Indonesia, had followed up plan to establish working groups at pilot cities/municipalities at meetings with Mayors from Kupang, Tarakan and Pangkalpinang on January 10 and 11, 2011. All three mayors re-confirmed their commitment to establish a working group by mid February 2011 at the latest and to allocate funds for its operation.  A meeting between National Coordinator and Association of Indonesia Regency of Legislative Council (ADKASI) with Wakatobi Regent was also held on January 20, 2011 to reconfirm the regency’s commitment on working group establishment and replication plan of action.

The National Coordinator has also met with the Mayor of Solo, Joko Widodo and the Mayor of Yogyakarta, Herry Zudianto, on January 18-19, 2011, to discuss planned exchange visits with DELGOSEA pilot city partners. Solo and Yogyakarta are the two Indonesian municipalities that were selected as  Best Practice sources.  Both Mayors expressed their willingness and support to actively participate in the DELGOSEA project. A corresponding draft MoU with respective cities to facilitate upcoming visits has been prepared and will be finalized within the near future.
