Short Memo: DELGOSEA at ARIAL

Short Memo: DELGOSEA at ARIAL
05/07/2013

The interest in the DELGOSEA network and the experiences of its members continues to spread beyond Southeast Asia - latest stop are the Pacific Islands.

Ms Desra Hilda Defriana from UCLG ASPAC presented the DELGOSEA best practice exchanges at the final regional seminar of ARIAL (Supporting and Strengthening Local Government Associations) that took place on 2 and 3 July 2013 in Auckland, New Zealand. Since ARIAL’s aim is to support local governments in African, Caribbean and Pacific countries in their decentralisation endeavours by strengthening their local government associations, the DELGOSEA experience in that field was seen as very relevant.

ARIAL wants to facilitate participation of local governments in the various dialogues concerning development policies with civil society, private sector, central government, and donors. These are issues that are also at the heart of the DELGOSEA project, and ARIAL’s interest in cooperation and possible replication of best practices from DELGOSEA is high.
