Kupang At A Glance

The small city of Kupang on the Indonesian island of Timor is just one of the pilot cities to have chosen the Eco-savers of Marikina, Philippines, as a best practice example – this ingenuous scheme to involve school children in the collection of recyclable rubbish clearly proved inspirational. Kupang is well on course to meet its objectives, with a pilot project currently being carried out in one local school. It began in December 2011 with a useful introductory event: eco-saver socialisation for the children, teachers and parents, introducing the project and providing an overview of how the system of eco-days would work. There is great support and commitment at the school, and it is hoped that the pilot can soon be extended to more schools in the area.
