The News

1. Bangkok Workshop: Exploring the DELGOSEA Vision for Good Local Governance

The first DELGOSEA workshop of 2016 saw nearly 40 network members and observers from eight ASEAN countries come together in Bangkok to brainstorm on the network’s vision of good local governance and decentralisation.

2. Creating a Child-Friendly City in Surakarta, Indonesia

Our featured best practice for this month looks at the city of Surakarta, better known as Solo, that has made great and impressive progress towards becoming a child-friendly city, putting children first.

3. Results from Waste Management Survey in Cambodia Published

Decentralisation is progressing well in Cambodia, with waste management being the latest set of responsibilities to be transferred to the municipal level. The National League of Communes/Sangkats (NLC/S), supported by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) in Cambodia, has just completed a survey to find out about current practices and future challenges for waste management in the country.

4. The Provincial Floating Clinic: Delivering Healthcare Right at Your Doorsteps, Province of Sorsogon, Bicol, Philippines

Bringing a medical doctor closer to the people is what the provincial government of Sorsogon had in mind to respond to the pressing health-related problems of the province. This month’s best practice features the provincial government of Sorsogon’s Provincial Floating Clinic, which consists of mobile type of clinics using a motorized boat roving along the depressed coastal communities. The vessel is fully equipped with capable medical and dental staff, medicines, communication services, ambulance, and skilled crew. The services offered by the clinic include minor surgery, emergency paramedic services, health education and sanitation, and community organization.
